Solar parks are increasingly being placed in a built-up environment. This can involve risks, such as annoying reflection of sunlight in the immediate vicinity. This is also known as “brilliance”. This glare can end up on surrounding buildings, homes and infrastructure and lead to inconvenience.
QING Sustainable finds out for you where and when glare may occur from a solar park.
We have developed a digital tool that can be used to simulate glare. The tool simulates millions of light rays falling on the panels at the same time. Based on various inputs, the tool determines whether glare may occur. Examples of this input include:
If glare is found, the tool can calculate at the minute level at which times this happens annually. Consideration can also be given to how the glare can be prevented. This way, we can play with the different inputs, such as the angle of inclination of the solar panels, until the simulation no longer shows glare.
Has your solar park already been built? Then we look at which specific locations and heights afforestation or fencing can be placed to block glare.
Or are you a resident of a solar park and want to validate that you are suffering from glare? Please contact Stan de Groot, he will be happy to help you.
